HDMI is capable of being as good. DVI is inferior since it must be run in 4:4:4 colour config and DVD is 4:2:2 (Near neough anyway) so hence there is an unecessary colour conversion. HDMI is capable of 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 but most devices only support 4:4:4. SDI is always 4:2:2.

Kris can probably explain the above better than me.

SDI = 480i (digital)

DVI = 480p, 720p, 1080i (digital RGB)

HDMI = 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i (digital RGB or Y Cb Cr)

If you want to go to an outboard scaler, SDI or HDMI 480i offer the best path, since you'll be using the dvd player as a transport only, no deinterlacing or scaling.

DVI is sort capable of 480I (some devices support it), it simply runs 480I double clocked and the scaler drops every other frame. DVI run in this way is identical quality to 4:4:4 HDMI.

The only reason I like SDi over the others digitals is longer "cheap" cables, good PQ too... That dont hurt!
