SDI PassThru Now Available!!!

2138 Views 40 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  kuebler
Key Digital has just released version 4.5 of it's Digital "Blaster" SDI to DVI/HDMI Converter/Scaler.

This version supports the much requested and anticipated "Pass Thru" mode for both NTSC and PAL. (480i and 576i) This is a perfect and lossless conversion from SDI to DVI/HDMI. (should be compatible with DVI and HDMI inputs supporting 480i/576i)

The KD Blaster is available with special AVS Pricing from Digital Connection.

You can read all about it there.

Other features of note:

Builtin Test Patterns

Both SDI and HD-SDI input

DVI and VGA outputs

Scales from Passthru to 1080P and even higher

KD has been great to work with. They've given us their ear and one of their best programmers, so I think we should give them a big "Thanks!".

And of course none of this would ever happen without AVS! Thanks Alan and David!

Ken's definitely the man.

BTW, curious, what did you end up testing with?
Oh wow!

Very very neat!!!

if anyone plans to do a review, that would be great!
I've tested it on my Samsung DLP RP.

It works great, but the scaler/deinterlacer in the Blaster is superior to the one in the Samsung.

I got it to use with my Gennum VXP base Anthem processor, but it's not shipping yet. I wish someone with one of the new Gennum or HQV processors would give it a whirl.

The KD developer was really patient and very nice, but he would only go so far. I tried to get him to add a digital convergence adjustment for all the new Ruby owners, but no go :)

He did add the Test Patterns from the front panel and some signal blanking.

Come on now, where's all the people that were lined up for an SDI to HDMI converter?

You were thinking what I was thinking... possible use with the Anthem D2 (if that thing turns out as good as it should). But the cool thing is I can actually use the built-in scaler until I make that other move. The new firmware is now in shipping units? Now I have to clear out a credit card.
Hallo Ken,

please you know if the Digital Blaster beyond to Bypass 576i makes the scaling/deiterlce on the Pal 576i (and output resolution 720p, 1080p 50 hz).

Thanks & Regards
Just took the plunge. I think I got the last one.

You may want to ask Falk in this thread as he should get his unit soon.

Hopefully my unit arrives tomorrow (otherwise I would get it only on Jan 2nd). If I get it, I'll set my system up during the holidays and will report asap, probably on Monday.
Falk,

I believe that KD came out with the latest firmware after yours shipped. Did you get the firmware upgrade e-mail?

Yes I did. But thanks for mentioning.
I noticed KD now has version 4.6 posted.

Ken
I was told just today that 4.5 is the latest.
Okay, now that I see my firmware is already out-of-date (and I don't even have the unit yet), can someone tell me if it's possible to do the upgrade with a Mac?
Just tried the pass-through mode and it didn't look very good. You have firmware version 4.5, Ken?
