Seagate 40 gig Drive

270 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  clip
Here is what seagate has to say about the ST340825A drive in the UTV, I asked them how to get access to it and what the master password is, told them it was from a piece of equipment I have that is not worth repairing and it would be a shame to waste such a nice drive.

Hello,

This drive was manufactured for use with a digital video recording system.

It is not qualified and will not work with a standard PC. There are no

utilities available from Seagate that will allow this drive to function in

your PC, as i has been altered by the OEM for use in a specific hardware

environment.

There is no Master Password which will unlock this drive

Wonderful. That's your normal CYA response.

IIRC, the old trick about unplugging the IDE cable after powering the unit up for 2-3 minutes and letting it continue to spin for about an hour should wipe the drive clean.

That only works after setting up a new drive in the UTV. And of course that assumes that his UTV still works. (It could be done by a friend's UTV though.)
