Does a sealed enclosure subwoofer deliver better overall performance compared to a vented subwoofer?

I'm planning to get a Dynaudio Audience LR120+, C120 speakers. Do I have to strictly get a Dynaudio subwoofer also (Sub 30A, vented)? My other option is an Atlantic Technology 272 PBM subwoofer (sealed).

Opinions and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend the widescreen review articles on subwoofers. Although Richard Hardestry (is that spelled right ?) has his own favorites, which you can judge by his own reference hardware he owns/uses http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif , it is still a nicely written und helpfull bag of infomation on the subject.

AFAI understood it an infinite baffle design is the optimum for any speaker, in this case a closed design (which is an infinite baffle), which offers the best "impulse responce". Of course a closed design will bring certain other "cons" with it (low effenciency, big enclosures), but theoretically it is still the best approach.

Today better bass reflex (vented design) ports will make no whistle sounds anymore at high volume, see also the new B+W Air Flow port design, but you should check out your "maybe wanted vented sub" for air noise at reference level, before purchasing.

Once the money is there I will go for a closed sub.
