I built a riser for my second row with 2x6s and mdf. There is no insulation in between the 2x6s right now. When I sat on them and played apocalapse now helicopter scene, it sounded much better on the riser than down in my front row that sits directly on the carpet, thats over poured foundation. I felt sub 100% more on the riser too. Im new to the whole HT thing but I am guessing that is why people use subfloors over concrete? I am going to have to sit in my back row now just to get the best sound unless I can figure something out.

People put subfloors down mostly for comfort. There are warmer than just putting carpet on concrete. It is just as likely that you have acoustic issues and may be hearing a null-mode in the front row. What treatments do you have in the room and what acoustic testing modeling have you done? Use REW (which can be found on the Home Theater Shack forums) for proper testing.

I dont have treatments right now I am new to this HT thing. Found this forum not long ago, would have helped out when I threw this room together. I have been reading the treatment threads but for a newbie I get lost in the technical stuff.
