Curious, when this happens, should we rescan channels? I assume new hardware is needed to catch the ATSC 3.0 broadcasts, right? Any indication of what sort of hardware supports ATSC 3.0? (just looking for a simple guide, like, "anything bought after 2015 should work" or "no ATSC 3.0 hardware wont' be available until 2021" or whatever). Thanks! The Seattle stations starting making their ATSC 3.0 filings
KUNS's RF 24 signal will convert to ATSC 3.0 on 12/8 and carry next gen simulcasts of KOMO and KIRO
KONG's RF 31 signal will also convert on 12/8 and carry next gen simulcasts of KCPQ, KZJO and KING
Good catch! I just happened to do a refresh, after seeing NextGen article (NextGen TV: A Progress Report) and saw the filings. Really didn't expect to see them until later next year so this is good news. The Seattle stations starting making their ATSC 3.0 filings

KONG's RF 31 signal will also convert on 12/8 and carry next gen simulcasts of KCPQ, KZJO and KING
And for the ATSC 1.0 simulcasts:
51.1 Univision will be on KOMO's RF 30 signal
51.2 TBD will be on KIRO's RF 23 signal
51.3 Stadium will be on KIRO's RF 23 signal
KONG hasn't made their filing yet to indicate their ATSC 1.0 hosts, but it will likely be split between KING, KCPQ and KZJO

For the same source, it isn't really about getting better image (as it is already about as good as it can be), it is more about the same image with less bandwidth. Better image quality comes if/when we have better capture (4k h.265 for example). Though there is no ETA that I have seen for anyone to start broadcasting existing channels in 4k anytime in the near future. At those rates will there likely be any difference in picture quality of Seattle Ota atsc 3.0 vs. Atsc 1.0?
I'd assume rescan would be required. Yes, you would need hardware with a 3.0 tuner. No TV released before this year has a 3.0 tuner, you can search on which ones have them (some from LG, Samsung and Sony). Easiest way to get a tuner at the moment is to order a HDHomeRun Connect 4k that just started shipping last month. Expect an early adopter experience (bugs/occasional instability/etc) from the broadcasts and the hardware if you want to jump in.Curious, when this happens, should we rescan channels? 16.1 KONG is showing up on CH25-6 a day early.KONG made their filing, here are their ATSC 1.0 simulcasts:
16.1 KONG will be on KING's RF 25 signal
16.2 Bounce will be on KZJO's RF 36 signal
16.3 This TV will be on KCPQ's RF 13 signal
If KONG makes a deal for a fourth subchannel at some point in the future, it will also be on KCPQ's signal.
KIRO is unfortunately sending interlaced content still - 1920x540 where as KING is sending 1920x1080. Interlaced content is going to give many of our playback methods problems.KIRO 7 not working correctly with ATSC 1.0 (the old system I guess). Yesterday and today I get double images on my 1080P Tv's, 4K Tv, and Tablo recordings. Anyone else see this and know when it will be fixed?
KIRO is showing up squished on VLC and is also reading 1920x540 for me. Also on the HDHomeHun software on my android tv it will only show the first frame that it picks up (and still play audio) or sometimes will play the video but its shifting up and down by a pixel, deinterlacing issue I assume.Anyone out there using a TV with a ATSC 3.0 tuner? I'm curious if KIRO is display correctly for you (full screen, not squished) and if you are having any strange audio issues with KOMO.
I'm assuming KIRO's 1080i signal is working as expected but just want to check as it isn't working for those of using HDHR's on a computer (as everything incorrectly reads it as 1920x540). But KOMO's audio is also being strange with only giving us surround channels or moving center channel to one side.
Yup, as Kyle pointed out, FFMpeg doesn't support the this 1080i HVEC so VLC and many (most) other apps on the computer won't work. Android TV issues have been noted on the HDHomeRun form (along with many other devices due to current lack of AC4 compatibility). If you aren't already, I'd recommend monitoring the HDHR 3.0 forum (ATSC 3.0 Forum - Silicondust )as you are going to see more HDHR specific issues and support there. I was specifically asking about folks with ATSC 3.0 TV's (meant ones built-in, I've updated my previous post) because I'm curious what the experience is for folks who aren't using the HDHR and are on a device that shouldn't have any compatibility issues.KIRO is showing up squished on VLC and is also reading 1920x540 for me. Also the audio level is lower on KOMO, KIRO. KZJO is defaulting to Spanish, and crashing HDHomeRun app when switch to English 5.1
