I'm trying to take a security contact and connect it to a device that will provide me with a 5VDC output when the contact is open. Then run the 5VDC to the power sensing port on my controller to trigger events like pause my Blu-Ray player when the front door opens. Any ideas on an inexpensive device that will do this for me?

If you already have the relay and the 5V supply, what more do you need?

You want 5V present when the realy is open?

Connect the 5V supply through a 4.7K resistor to one of the relay contacts, connect this to the DVD player, and connect the other contact to ground. Whne the realy is closed the DVD player will get 0 volts, when open, it will get 5V through the resistor...I'm assuming this is just a high impedance input.

Just get a normally open security contact. Make sure it has no resistor built into it.

Beware what security contact manufacturers call NO vs what electrical manufacturers call NO: they may call it NC (door open, closed circuit/door shut, open circuit, what you want)

He's already got to go shopping, it's not apparent the OP has any equipment yet. Why not simplify the circuit? That might actually be cheaper since he doesn't have to buy a relay or a resistor.

5v power supply, NO contact, done.
