Seeking Affordable HDMI Amp with Pass-Through

352 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  afrogt
Needed to power two Pioneer SP-BS22-LR loudspeakers. My amp, a Onkyo TX-8255 is analog stereo only and I'm not sure a HDMI > 2 x Analog Audio converter is the best option (concerns about lag and compromised signal to noise ratio). FYI: I'm planning on building a little retro video game station using this new "Ouya" console as the emulation platform (I hear amazing things about its abilities for this application) and this machine only outputs HDMI, so the amp will also require pass-through!

What's your budget. Affordable means different things to different people.
You've gotta tell us what you consider affordable. I have the onkyo 313 for a garage system and although it is 5.1 which is more than you need, it is very affordable (to me) and fits your needs.

Hmm, that sub $300 price tag is more than I'd like to pay but that's quite a feature-packed unit. I've been pretty happy with the Onkyo TX-8255 & its "wide range amplifier" magicness -- what's your impressions of the 313?
It's actually 200 brand new on amazon and just over 175 if you go with the amazon warehouse deal. For 200 dollars I think it's hard to beat, as long as you keep your expectations tempered. I wasn't looking for the ultimate in sonic clarity or features, just a simple to use, no nonsense receiver for a second setup. I think the onkyo 313 fits the bill nicely.

what's your definition of "pass through"? Are you planning to watch TV with the receiver and speakers off?
