Seeking Center Channel Recommendations

857 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  mklein49
I'm looking to piece together a 5.1 system. I plan to reuse a set of JBL E90 towers for the front speakers. I'm also looking at subs and right now leaning towards a SB12-NSD when available. For now, I'm using a Sony STR-DE935 receiver. In the future, I'll likely upgrade, but for the near term that's what will be used. The tv used is a 50" plasma. I plan to place the center channel on top of a piece of furniture that resides below the tv. I've attached a photo.

The Room size is roughly 20x25

My budget is in the $500 range, but I'm willing to push it to ~$700, if I can gain significant performance.

I have been looking at audiogon for used options, such as the Aerial Acoustics CC-3. I've also looked a new options like the SVS MCS-01.

Are there advantages to buying a new speaker vs a used high end? Other than that, I guess I'm just looking for any recommendations.

Thanks

The Aerial is a great center. Used from a reputable Audiogoner is a great way to go. I'm not sure if the match with the JBL's will work though. You'll have to try it.
Are you planning on eventually ugrading to Aerial's all around? If so, that's a great idea, Aerial's are terrific!

OTOH you can probably find the JBL ec35 matching center for cheaper, 2 are up on ebay right now.

Perhaps, I probably need to do some research on here as to what the impacts are with non-matching speakers.

I think my plan for now is to go with the E90's then upgrade piece by piece budget permitting in the future.

Would it be more important to match JBL's rather than buying a "better" speaker, such as the Aerial?
