Seeking NMT with Autocorrect for commercial skipping

929 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  mvallevand
I did a search in this forum for "autocorrect" and it came up blank. I am seeking a HD media player or NMT with the autocorrect feature, like my D* HR20 DVR has. This feature allows you to fast-forward thru commercials, and then when you see the show you are watching, hit "play" and the autocorrect feature will zip back a little, and start the show at the right place. I know some people do not care for this feature, but I find it very useful.

I know this request is likely counter-intuitive for an NMT, since most media does not likely have commercials in the content. Mine does. I have lots of HD archived material saved via a Hauppauge 1212 that I did not bother to remove the commercials from, for personal reasons.

My assumption is that most every media player out there can play media from an attached USB HDD (which shows up as mass storage on USB). NTFS support is required, since some of my concerts go over 4 GB, and will not fit on FAT.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The closest thing I know of would be to run a SageTv HD300 extender at the TV, with your PVR 1212 connected to a computer running SageTV somewhere else on your network.

With the free, 3rd party plguin (Comskip) you get your recordings with the commercials already identified. Then when a commercial break comes on you can just press the skip forward button once to automatically jump to the start of the next section of the show. Alternatively, you can set it to automatically jump over all commercials by itself. That way, all you have to do to watch commercial free DVR'ed shows it to press play at the beginning of the show.

Thanks for chiming in Suntan. If I understand you correctly, this would likely not work for me, because I have lots of shows that are already recorded (via the 1212) onto USB HDD. In other words, the commercials are not marked, and I would have to do some post-processing to mark them. Also, I really do prefer to FF thru them, as opposed to skipping them all together.

You can import already recorded shows into Sage and it will scan/identify the commercials in those.

In any case, if you actually want to *watch* the commercials, just at high speed, I don't really have much to offer there.

You can also get comskip playback with GBPVR/NPVR on the first generation NMT's like the A110. I've got the HDPVR and it works well.
