I have the Seleco SVD 500 Plus HD, and it's a very nice unit. I've received super support from Seleco/Sim2, even though authorized dealers are hard to find here in the USA.
I use the line doubler sparingly, but it does work pretty well. Also, it's nice not to have another piece of equipment around like a scaler or external line doubler.
The Seleco was very easy to set up and easy to keep tuned up, but I'm not sure how I'll feel the first time I have to replace something. Parts may be very hard to find, although I can probably order them from Europe where Seleco is a household name.
In that regard, the SONY will be easier to deal with when it comes to parts, and lots of folks have SONY equipment and can help you with set up questions, used part inquiries, etc. Certainly, some will feel that the SONY is the only wise choice for you.
I got the Seleco anyway, and so far I have no regrets. It's very quiet, dependable, easy to use, and has a wonderful picture.
Good luck on your decision!
