Hi,

I have a Pioneer VSK-2020K which I recently purchased. Previously I had a Denon which I was quite happy with but I wanted to upgrade after all these years as mainly the cabling had become more 'digitalized' - meaning more HDMI type inputs and the upscaling ability of this receiver was quite impressive.


Now, as it is our want, most sports fans in the UK have the great advantage of a wonderful and alternate sports commentary on the radio simultaneously broadcast with the TV output. A great many of us like to watch TV but listen to the audio commentary from the Radio or device carrying the radio..e.g 2nd Satellite receiver. Now with the old composite cables (yellow/red/white) the video and audio was split and you could chose an alternate video or audio on the OLD receivers.


Is this possible on these new HDMI type receivers ? or is it a thing of the past. The only way I can possibly see to do this is to use component cables which just carry video and mix with a chosen optical cable. Not many component connections compared to HDMI and optical cables extra which was ONE of the reasons for upgrading anywayt..reduce cabling...


Anybody been there..done that...etc...???

You're on the right track and somewhat defeats the purpose of reducing cables.


I use the RBG Component out from the SAT receiver to the component in on the TV. Then run another cable, audio out from the SAT receiver to an audio in on receiver. Switch the TV input from HDMI to Component. You will have video and then can play any other audio source from your VSX-2020K.

Some receivers can do what you're describing, some cannot; it isn't as universal as it was say, ten years ago. Refer to the user's manual as to whether or not it can monitor a separate audio source. If this isn't possible at all, or isn't possible using the internal tuner, you may need an external tuner connected via RCA analog and the TV box connected via YPbPr as stevensctt suggested - you'll have one "mode" where the TV box feeds HDMI and you can watch TV normally, and another where you can only get picture from the TV box, and audio from the external tuner.
