Self-Powered Outdoor Speakers

1327 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Mr. Hookup
I realize most posts here are looking for audiophile sound. I however, am looking for functionality here as opposed to the best sound. I'll save the best sound for the indoors.

To come to the point, I am looking to put some speakers out around my pool area. They may be sheltered under a roof but, some maybe completely exposed to the elements. It's in New England so, what ever I put out there must be either completely weaterproof or able to be brought back in during the winter.

If possible, I'd like to avoid running cable out there as well. So, I guess I'm looking for a self-powered option as well. Is there any such animal? If not, what are some of the best-value non-powered outdoor speakers?

I'm not looking for the very best in SOUND but, the best in VALUE.

Thank you -Brad

A buddy of mine had his outdoor speakers stolen and he said forgedda'bout it... outdoor speakers (especially since they hacked up part of his patio in the process), he bought one of those "Sports" boomboxes to use outside when he needs to. Cheap and easy to replace should it break. So far no problems..
Brad: Self powered outdoor speakers generally have poor sound quality. In addition, they are not truly wireless as you need to plug them in to an outlet for power. Units that use battery power are unacceptible since the batteries go dead quickly. Your best bet are real weatherproof outdoor speakers. I recommend the Niles line as they are truly weatherproof, have great sound quality. Incidently, you don't have to run wires out to the pool area. You can mount them up high on your house facing out in that area. You'll love them, and they last almost forever.
