Sending application audio output to different sound cards

1316 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Herc
I am using dual monitor inputs from my video card to my HDTV and I also have a six-channel output from my motherboard audio and a two-channel output from an additional sound card going into my receiver.

I want to have the PCI sound card output and secondary video output playing an internet video stream 24/7 using Media Player Classic. I want the primary screen and motherboard six-channel audio for everything else.

I have tried fiddling with the settings in Media Player Classic but it will only play on the default sound device. I am still trying to get used to Windows Vista but so far I don't see the option I need.

Any ideas?

open up MPC, then go to view menu, then options.

once your in the options menu, you'll see the playback menu, and then output as a sub-menu, click on output.

in that menu you will see directshow audio with a drop down menu.

by default, its always set to system default, use the drop down menu, and choose the secondary sound card, whatever brand name, model number it is.

and you should now be good to go.

It turns out that your suggestion does work, but not for this particular real media stream.

I rely on a program called Real Alternative to play real media content in Media Player Classic. Apparently, Real Alternative controls the output of the sound, since specifying different audio devices in MPC has no effect. Although Real Alternative has an option in its configuration for Direct Sound, it must be using the system default audio device as it also has no effect.

I tried the official Real Player 10.5 Gold software but it crashes each time when I select 'Hardware' in its' options. It may be an imcompatibility with Vista.

I hope I do not have to set up a second system for simply playing this media stream.
If i can't control output direction from the application directly, isn't there a way with some utility that I can transfer this output to another sound card?
Nothing at all? I should use a second system?
You might want to take a look at Virtual Audio Cable . I have no experience with this, but based on it's name, it might be what you are looking for.

Change the default soundcard to the "other" soundcard
