I wanted to force download the 3.7 update for an RCA UTV loaded with 3.5. Had some trouble connecting steadily to MSN toll-free #, so I configured the unit to dial in using my ISP, speakeasy.net.

Enabled Call Waiting override, set up correct phone numbers and login info, checked the Use Own ISP box, hit Connect...and although it successfully disabled Call Waiting, getting the second dial tone, it then dialed a 10-digit phone # instead of the 7-digit local phone #. So as it also said "connecting toll-free" or something similar, I presume it is still trying the MSN 800 #. Unsuccessfully, I might add.

I powered down, retried, no luck. Unplugged, waited, plugged in, retried, no luck. Any ideas? TIA.

Update on May 30: Connected the phone line a bit more directly, and tried the update using Option-Option-Option-8675309. It said it was dialing in to MSN/WebTV, and failed. BUT it redialed, saying it was connecting to my ISP, and proceeded to establish the connection and successfully upgrade to 3.7. :)

So I don't know why it won't bypass MSN/WebTV, it seems to want to make an initial attempt to the 800# rather than skip directly to my own ISP. But since I never use the 'net feature, this is largely moot for me. Hope everyone else has success.
