Set top box sending Dd5.1 with depopulated center and/or surrounds

I’ve got a sound bar with a dedicated center channel. I’ve come across a bunch of channels in my FIOS sEt top box that appear to be outputting DD5.1 but the center channel and surrounds channels are often not there leaving me with a muffled, no vocals, bad experience. So I ended up setting the audio output setting to PCM. Any ideas what’s going on with this?

First and foremost whether or not you get surround sound depends on your sources. Not all content encoded with Dolby Digital (or AAC) audio is in surround sound.
