Can anyone shed some light on why I have regular non HD channels on the surround works fine However when I switch to A HD channel no surrond...???? The HD cable box is Comcast 5100 Surround system is panasonic

You should use both analog and digital connections on the cable box (RCA's and coaxial digital audio) to your receiver.

make sure that you have the digital out set up in the 5100. If it is anything like my moto5100, the non premium stations are standard analog signals sent over the digital out. When you're in the premium stations, HD stations included. The output is DolbyDigital. To enable the DD output go into the cable box setup (my box uses the "Menu" button). select Setup. Scroll to Audio, and make sure the Audio is set to "Advanced"


I have a different Cable Co. than you, but the setup should be similar.
