My question is about my subwoofer placement. I just recently upgraded to 2 Def Tech BP-8's which I place on each side of my TV stand. I previously owned the Prosub 800 which was placed at the corner of my livingroom. Where would be the best place for my sub now? I was told by a friend that I should place the in this order (BP-8, TV stand, Subwoofer, BP-8), is this a good placement? I always thought that the sub should be on the outer side of floor speakers. Please help me

P.S. on the tv stand I have a center channel (procenter2000) and surround speaker (Promonitor1000's) on the back of my livingroom.

If I read the specs correctly the BP-8's go plenty low; you might not need the sub, though it can help take some of the load off the mains.

I much prefer the mains on either side of the TV, equally spaced, to provide the most realistic sound stage with respect to the video. I would figure out where they go first, then place the sub where it does the most good without disturbing their placement, probably to the outside of one of the main speakers and a bit out from the corner and wall if possible. I.e. close to what you already have. Do a search for "crawl test" in the subwoofer forum.

If the sub crosses over a bit on the high side, or has content that goes fairly high (say above 80 - 100 Hz, as some LFE does if I read rightly), then I prefer the mains as I have described and the sub centered below the TV, again to properly place the sound. Thought as usual, if you can "hear" (localize) the sub, it is probably too loud and/or crossed over too high.

FWIWFM - Don

p.s. Also note the admonishment at the top to not put subwoofer posts here, but over in the subwoofer forum...
