My SW can be set to cross over from 50-200hz. My front satellites are rated 20-100hz. I can set cross over from both the SW and my receiver...what would be the ideal setting for both?

Also, where should I set the phase switch, again on both my receiver and SW I can put it to normal or reverse...is there a general rule for this?

Set the crossover (XO) on the sub to it's highest setting or set to disabled if an option. Use the XO in the receiver. Start at 80Hz then lower if it sounds better. Set the phase to normal until the system is set up, then try it in reverse to see if it sounds better.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give that a shot...by lowering do you mean a higher or lower number for the hz? For instance, the SW highest setting would be 200hz right? So lowering it would mean reducing the number of hz at which it cuts off?

Yes. 60Hz is lower than 80Hz. The crossover doesn't cut off as much as it redirects. Sound coded for your satellites will start to roll off below the XO point and be redirected to the sub. Your sub should be much more capable of producing these lower tones. Since the lower frequencies are non directional, you don't loose much by not getting these through your stereo speakers. If set up properly, the bass sounds will seem to be coming from the satellite speakers and not the sub.

As to your phase setting, I have never seen a phase setting on a receiver. This is usually handled by the speaker distance settings. Still, set them both to 0 or normal.
