ok...i finally sucked it up and ordered digital io with hd box. it's the sa4200. even has dvi. although i probably won't use it...since i have my htpc connected to dvi for my sony xbr gw2.


anyways...the cable guy set my box to 480i. he said that was ideal setting. oh my! which i found odd since he seemed to be somewhat knowledgeable.


so i changed it to 720p and then to 1080i. couldn't decide what looked better. is there a preferred setting? or does it depend on tv model?


my other question. for non-hd content, is there any way to set the left/right letterbox to a black color? i don't care for the gray color.

Right now for IO HD, 1080i is the best setting since their are no 720p channels on that cable system. Native passthru would be better if it were available. 480i is useful when watching letterboxed material on an SD channel.


The gray side bars displayed by the cable box can be changed to dark gray. However side bars on the HD channels (for non-HD content) are added by the TV station (CBS uses light gray, Fox & HBO black).
