Because someone on CNET or who knows where else posts their calibration settings and insist that anything other than that is ludicrous.

Thanks sonylekim, i'll try it tomorrow after work.

Another possibility for a bright or variable daytime room is using the Ambient Light Sensor ..before I get flamed by 'purists', check out the hx800 calibration/settings thread where a couple of knowledgable folks have done some research/experimentation with using that in conjunction w/ some other settings; I've used it for about a week, and the results are pretty impressive for my environment. The HX800 has pretty similar video innards to the NX810 .. There's also a good discussion of the Motionflow options over there that are probably applicable to our sets .

Just got my 55NX810 delivered yesterday.

Looking for the best of the best picture settings in a well-lit room.

Primary use is watching DirecTV HD channels.

Occasional Blu-ray and Xbox 360 use.

All via HDMI.

The thing is, when watching 3D the feature is off by default and you can't change that. Now I'm starting to notice the spots even when the Dynamic LED is ON.

Yeah, I realize that problem when 3D is on but I think no one will get deep blacks in that case because of the backlight being so bright. In 2D viewing, however, dynamic LED helps achieve deeper blacks.

My TV feels a doctor is coming soon. Last night I was watching and couldn't see any white spots after seeing them for a while.

LOL, I read about some of the clouding issues before I bought the TV and I took notes on how people said to best check for clouding. I've had the TV for a few weeks now and I was trying so hard to see clouding that I thought I was seeing some when there was none. It can drive you nuts. I'm still not 100% convinced my set is cloud free but I'm less worried now.

Just received my set Friday as well and have the same setup as you (Dish Network instead of DTV). Would love any recommendations for the same conditions.

Try setting the "Dynamic LED" "OFF". That's when I see it. I mostly see it when I'm streaming music through PS3 media and by setting the visual on the PS3 while listening to music where you can see the planet. There are lots of night scenes so it's easy to see the spots if you have them. Hopefully not!

I know, "dynamic LED" set to OFF and backlight to max is the way to see if you have any clouding. I'll try the PS3 thing though. I've checked on black screens, dark scenes in movies, etc and didn't see any uneven backlight.

My settings earlier in the thread are on a 46 .. there shouldn't be much difference in the settings based on size alone..play around with the settings in the thread and find the best for your viewing situation ..

My final settings are posted in Post 7 of this thread, I've plateaued in my tweaking and am unable to achieve any further improvements in picture quality on my 55in. YMMV, good luck with this great tv!

I've also updated my settings in Post 41. I picked up the DVE Blu-ray disc and completely rethought my process on the white balance settings. They're still not perfect (might be a bit too blue making yellows a little green) but it's the best I've gotten so far for overall color and contrast.

Found an interesting setting that I am pretty impressed with.

I set the power saving to high in preferences. Then set the picture to vivid in settings. Now this is no means a ISF correct picture, but I find it to be very rich and with deep blacks. Try it and let me know what you think.

That's good...

What's important is that YOU like what you see with your setting.

There is NO right or wrong setting...

some people wear glasses..some don't..some are color-blind...some don't...some like big bones...some don't...etc.

Im still trying to find the right mix of settings. I want deep blacks and colors to pop.

why is it better to set the backlight low(2 or lower) and the sharpness so low (5 or lower)---the picture looks dim and dull like that to me. Is there other settings that compensate for this ? Im not saying I want a VIVID setting---just something in between.

The lower the backlight the deeper the blacks and the tv will use less energy. I suggest using a low backlight setting and maxing out the contrast for punch, then increasing the backlight to suit room lighting or personal preference. Also, to retain best black levels with adequate pic. detail I use max gamma (increases brightness black details without affecting max. blacksl) with minimal brightness settings.
