I consider myself an AV newbie and would like comments or opinions on how I should have my system correctly setup.

I have the following equipment:

Phillips 34pw9817

Sony 9000ES DVD player

Sony SAT HD200 ( purchasing this week for OTA HD signal)

Sony VCR

ARCAM 200 receiver

I currently have my DVD player plugged into AV4, VCR into AV1 and the Arcam receiver into AV2 to view receiver menu options. Should I move the DVD to AV3 when I pick up the HD receiver and plug the HD receiver into AV4?

Comments, opinions and explanations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the 34pw8520. I am looking at the same situation as you when my HD cable box shows up in a few weeks. I would connect your tuner directly into AV4. I think your t.v. is like mine in that AV4 is the only input that will take 1080i/480p/480i. Your CVI input will only take 480i right? I found thru experimentation that my progressive scan (480P) DVD player looked just about the same in either AV3 or AV4 inputs. I think these t.v.s have a really good interlacer in them that it really shouldn't matter where you input your DVD player. However, AV4 is your only choice for 1080i, so most definitely use it for your tuner.

Another option may be to switch thru your receiver. I don't know anything about your receiver, but on mine (Onkyo 600), I can input two sets of component cables and output one. You might be able to do that.
