setup SVS w/ Denon 2805

Hi, I've posted this question in the "speakers" section already and figure I'll get better luck here instead. I know i'm not suppose to post the same thread at 2 different places, sorry moderators.

I'm about to receiver my SVS PCi20-39 tomorrow and will be using this with the Denon 2805. I'll have it placed in the corner of the living room. I know the basics on setting it up: setting other speakers to small, crossover at 80, downmix off, digital compression off, etc.

What I'm not so sure about is the setting on the onboard amp of the sub itself. I know I have to turn off the crossover on the amp since I'm using the 2805's crossover. But what should I do with the Phase and Volume setting? I don't have a SPL meter yet, but I'll get that sometime this weekend. Having the auto-EQ on the 2805 is better than nothing for now right? Is there any electrical precautionaries that I should know about,eg: don't plug the sub into the outlet until the RCA cable is plugged into the 2805 LFE preout? or something like that?

The auto EQ will work pretty well for basic setup. It will probably be off on the distance (as per the manual) and you can change that setting or leave it alone as you prefer. Set the gain on the sub up 1/4 to 1/3, turn off the sub x-over and probably best to disable the auto-on feature during setup. The Denon will get it all pretty close and you can fine tune later. Phase is explained pretty well in the SVS manual but that's down the road after initial calibration.
