Hi,

Has anyone watched or got the new Special Edition DVD yet?. Mine should arrive next week , but I just wanted to know if the colour and image has been improved , like what was done on other remasters of classic movie of this era, example Singin' in the Rain. I know it was Ansco colour, not Technicolor, but would like to here anyones opinion. Thanks.

Regards

Juz:)

Well, it's anamorphic, as is the 1.77:1 framed version that's on disc 2. It's certainly not up to the level of the newer editions of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, etc. I didn't compare it to the earlier edition. I think I prefer the Cinemascope framing on disc 1, but it's also nice to watch it without black bars, yet get most of the image, and without zooming. I suspect if I compared version 1 with this new edition, I'd see noticeable improvement, if only just from going from zoom to anamorphic - i.e., increased resolution. The difference is likely quite apparent. As for color/PQ improvement, the new one looks soft, but I suspect the old one does, too:

$19.82 or so at Wal-Mart (not carried by all Wal-Marts, though).
