Wanted to take the opportunity to pass along information for anyone potentially looking into a Severtson screen. I purchased a 119" back in December with a Panny AX100. Went with the .95 gain grey screen and haven't looked back. Compared to samples from Draper, Da-Lite, Stewart and FOR MY ROOM the Severtson was the definitive winner. I've got rear windows in a dedicated game room that do cast some ambient light during the day. The picture quality with the Severtson is absolutely fabulous.

To only bolster my rec for them, Severtson's customer service has been top notch. I dealt with Kurt for a while when trying to make a decision on screens and projectors and have been dealing with Eric as of late on an issue that I caused- repeat: DEFINITIVE USER ERROR. Both went out of their way to make the experiences great. In fact, Eric bent over backwards to help me find a gratis fix in a situation that I was sure was going to cost hundreds to fix. I even told him that I would pay hundreds if they would correct it and the guys wouldn't take my money, instead offering a free solution. I cannot speak highly enough of the experiences and will be buying another screen from them soon for my parents home.

I, like many of you reading this I'm sure, pride myself in doing my due diligence and research and driving home the best bang-for-the-buck and deals for my gear. It is my true and honest opinion that Severtson is not only the best value for a great screen out there, but also the best company to deal with. Hindsight 20-20, I'd gladly pay more to deal with them.

I would like to echo UNC Nick in his Severtsen reccomendation. I own a .95 HC grey screen at 92" diag (I am actually looking to sell it as I now have a bat cave room and am going to get a white screen for my new RS1 if anyone is looking for one) and it has been excellent. I have also had the pleasure of dealing with Severtsen customer service and they are second to none. They would not take my money either for a "user screw up
" that I did on accident. These guys are awesome!

I compared the Severtsen to a couple other grey screens when I bought it, and the Severtsen and FH were easily my two favorite. I would rate both of these equal all things considered which is saying a lot as the FH reputation speaks for itself.

I've had my 119" .95 gray screen for 6 months now and love it with my AE900. I have total light control, but Kurt @ Severtson felt that the HC Gray would help w/ black level.

The only minor nit I have is that I can see a slight "sparkly" effect. It's hard to describe but it sounds like the same problem some folks had with HCCV screen material. It's one of those things that I can only see when I'm actively trying to look for it and only during menus / static images. It doesn't detract from movie playback.

Frame quality and customer service are both top notch.

We've had our Severtson 106" standard fixed frame .95 gain HC grey screen for over a year now and still love it! I got it with a package deal from Kirk (not Kurt) at Severtson (actually used to be projectorpackages and is now projectorbundlesdotcom) with the Panny 900. They really work out good package prices. I would imagine that it would be a great fit with the AX100 due to its light output.

I have always wondered about white screen, but we watch so much HD sports with the dimmers on that I think the HC grey is still the best fit.

I have never noticed any "sparklies" ever.

I echo your comments on customer service. They are very helpful, courteous and are not high-pressure salespeople.

I was in the same situation as you: 92" .95 HC Grey. I changed to a bat cave, but instead of selling the screen I ordered the replacement matte white material from Severtson and BIG improvement.

No one to my knowledge builds fixed frames as good as Severtson with their rod tensioning.

Just finished my dedicated basement and purchased a 133 Severtson Legacy Series Cinema White and absolutely love it. Best deal I've ever gotten.

Room needs to be dark to do it's best. Any light will wash out the screen, but I'd have it no other way.

Projector is an Epson HomeLite 1080UB, BluRay PS3.

I agree, the rod tension system is great and there is not a ripple anywhere. Very tight.

Just to chime in.. I've had the 106" Servertson .95 Gray as well as the white fabric. The frame no doubt is top notch and the tensioning system definately pulls the fabric very taught for a perfectly smooth surface.

I have a Panny 900 as well that I've run for a couple of years and I always felt the .95 gray fabric was just too dull. It had no punch and tended to look green to me. Ambient light or not.. I just didn't like the image at all. So I swapped out to the white Severtson fabric and was somewhat happier until I sent off for a Dalite Hipower samble.. big mistake. Wow. To say the image pops off of a hipower is an understatement.. but plenty of threads have beat this to death so I won't go on and on about it.. At any rate I ended up ordering a pull down Hipower and cut the fabric off and attached it to the back of my Severtson frame. That's been a year and a half ago and I haven't looked back. Dalite hipower fabric will blow your mind. If you've never seen it.. try it.

I am just now ordering a Severtson screen and an Epson HC6100, and I noticed that you have had both gray and white Severtsons. I know that you like the white in the dark theatre, but what happens when you turn some lights on? Do you still prefer the white screen with some ambient light?

Opinions anyone?

Thanks for your help...

Do you think I would be better off with the Severtson grey if I want to watch with some light on? I know the image will always be better in the dark, but I want to be able to watch HDTV, sports, etc., with some light on.
