I've been hanging out in the crt projector forum for quite some time now. I have owned 3 different crt projectors and I view material through an htpc and I must say the images are spectacular. I wonder now if too big is not a good thing....there's a certain sense of satisfaction that is missing from my movie watching experience. I wonder if it's the relative silence of a direct view set, or if direct views offer some other level of satisfaction....

At any rate, I'm still unable to duplicate the immersive movie viewing experience that I had with my 27" direct view Hitachi FX90 (an amazing and rare crt) and a laserdisc player! And even I know that laserdisc doesn't look as good as dvd, but why did I enjoy watching movies so much???

It's not that I don't enjoy movies now, but there is a level of satisfaction that is simply missing....Little things like screen location are huge factors. With a crt front projector it's very difficult to locate yourself in the proper position for optimal viewing. Either the image is too high or too low...or the projector is sitting right in your way on the floor.

Just wanted to let you guys know that even a seasoned crt front projectioner still yearns for the absolute satisfaction delivered by a crt direct view. And in fact I am seriously considering a return to direct view...should I find an appropriate set.
