Help! Got new Sharp LC-32DA5U today. All setup but can't get dvd's to display on screen (no audio either). Plugged composite cables into DVD output Y, Pb and PR; did same on input panel on tv. Tried setting input to Auto, then component, then video with no success. Manual is no help. What did I miss??

Did you use composite cables for the Component input? That wont work I dont think. Change the cables to COMPONENT type and then get some decent audio cables and use those for the sound . You''ll have 5 total cables going from the DVD player to the TV, 3 for video and 2 for audio.

It's easy to mix up composite cables and component cables but Im pretty sure they are not interchangable.

Using the AUTO setting should pick up the DVD player when in use.

Hope that helps....????
Composite and Component cables are very much the same inside in most cases, cheaper composite cables will use low gauge wires instead of coaxial type cable for the audio wires, but there is no reason they will not work for component connections, but usually purely for signal quality reasons you would want to get component cables.

Anyways, check to make sure you didn't mix up the cables, green/blue can be messed up pretty easily (although if you are using composite cables you'd have YRW so I don't see how you could mess that up).
I had some problems initially with the component cabling on a 32d40u until I realized the plugs were REALLY tight and I did not actually have them plugged in, though at first exam they seemed fine. Very carefully make sure the plugs are actually in place, they are snug, but obviously you do not want to damage the set.
