I have the Sharp XV10k ceiling mounted in my room 15' back from the screen with a hush box to dampen the fan noise. I cut a hole in the hush box for the IR receiver which works if I point my remote directly at the hole but the better half has not been able to figure this out.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on a hard wire of the IR receiver to the front of the room where it would be a clear shot for my remote (along with my other equipment). Could I use the serial port? What is the 'wired' remote for? I certainly wouldn't want to have my remote wired to the unit (picture dangling from the ceiling).

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar situation and I'm going with an RF remote (MX-800). It will allow you to either use the IR repeater in the base or one of the wired repeaters.

The disadvantages: cost

Not sure I would spend the money if this was the only issue I was trying to solve - having a high-end universal remote is a just a great "side benefit".

95ForCanada,

Thanks for the reply. Since this doesn't appear to be easy, or cheap, I'll work through it and see if there are other ways I can point the remote or increase the size of the hole in the hushbox. THanks again.

You could just get an IR repeator. This is a device that basically has 3 parts. The sensor, which you could mount up front by your screen. The block, which all the connections go to. And the emitters, which would attach to your equipment (projector and anything else you wanted to control). This then does what the title is, "repeats" the signal and sends it via hardwire to the equipment. Best part is that it works for any remote control.

Jason,

How do you get the repeater to 'see' all of the equipment in the rack, especially if it's behind a door?

Thanks,

Jason,

Can you recommend a setup where I could use the repeater for 2 devices: my Sharp 10k and a DaLite ElectroMask screen? Can I get this setup through you? My Sharp 10 k is 22 wired feet from the rest of my equipment. If so, how much are we talking? Thanks.
