I recently purchased a Sherwood RX4109 receiver. However, when it is on and connected to a speakers or headphones there is audible background noise (I think I would describe it as a hiss rather than a hum. Possibly a buzz? Just a general staticy interference type noise.) All components in the setup are plugged into the same surge protector. It doesn't change if I unplug everything possible from it. It can be plugged into literally nothing but headphones and a power outlet, and the sound is still there.

It is audible from several feet away from any volume that isn't muted (though does get louder past the ~40 range). Is this worth exchanging? I don't know for sure whether or not it would happen if plugged into a different power source, but I assume not, as I have had speakers plugged into the same outlet/surge protector with no hiss, leading me to believe the problem is a defective receiver.

Thank you for your help.
