I shipped out my projector via UPS to a buyer, I used the original box and packing where four pieces of styrofoam hold the projector firmly in the center, just how I received it from the dealer... also in the empty spaces I placed bubble wrap and double boxed it. The outer box was a little old/worn out...

The UPS man I shipped it with was trying to get me to pay nearly $100 more in shipping and re-packaging threw out all these scare tactics at me about the danger that it might break in shipping, that they won't pay for the insurance if they deem it wasn't boxed right, and that I have to sign a release saying I packed it myself, etc... he talked about five minutes trying to upsell me / scare me, but in the end I sent it regular ground shipping for the regular price.

Still, with all that he said, now I have a fear/feeling that it is going to break and the worst will happen, and I almost wish I went USPS... it is like going to a restaurant and the waiter telling you they 'might' spit in your food, but probably not if you buy at least $100 of food... you don't just forget that...they are preying on you. do you think it will be fine?

I don't know if this will make you fell at ease or not but I shipped 3 projectors packed together in one box international and they arrived fine. All I did was wrap each projector in bubble wrap and fill the box with peanuts. They eBay feedback was projectors arrived in excellent condition. I think the guy at your shipper was just trying to make some money off of you because I don't think they really make a lot on the shipping.

I have had alot of misc electronic equipment ( Computers, etc ) shipped from South Texas to Alberta and everything had always made it fine in the original box, sometimes they sent stuff to me and it hardly had any packing and it was fine.

We always double box the projectors we ship. We have had problems in the past with UPS. Keep in mind we ship more projectors than most, we double box to protect the customers.

As long as you ship ground, I wouldn't worry about it. It'll be fine. Now if you had said you sent it red, it's damn near guaranteed to be destroyed.

I think UPS Air means Air Drop. As in , they fly by, open the door and kick the stuff out...

I work for UPS so I can speak from experience. While I am sure everyone has heard the stories of destroyed packages, the fact is most packages arrive intact. But, they have to packed well. You guys have no idea how many packages are shipped and how fast they move. The biggest culprit of destroyed packages are void space and shifting weight. PAckages are stacked to the roof in trailers on top of each other and if there is void space the weight may crush it some. If the contents shift inside, it will eventually rip apart from all the conveyor belts and slides. The bottom line is pack it well, if you would not drop it from a couple feet, it's not packed well enough. We have projectors come by in their original packaging all the time and they look fine even as they are loaded on the package cars.

One posted suggested that ground was better than air. This is not the case in my experience. Not that there is something inherently wrong with ground, but the air packages just spend less time with us and get handled fewer times. They always look cleaner on the outside. So air is always a good option. I also drive for UPS sometimes ( not now with the economy). We move fast, and packages are moved quickly, but not abused except maybe in isolated cases. I care about my packages and that makes me a bit slower. But we're no Jim Carey in Ace Ventura!

I've bought and sold about 7 PJs and numerous electronic items using mostly UPS in CONUS, so far so good.

However, as Shahram said, you got to pack them right w/o empty space.

Maybe I'm just lucky.
