Shocked by Bose Powerful Deep Bass

I know what you guys thinking I'm talking about the weak bass that comes from their Acousticmass modules, but I'm actually talking about their Quitecomfort 2 Headphones. I demoed them and although they weren't the best in their price range, they had extremely deep and powerful almost overpowering bass.

The treble was too weak, but overall, I'd say that they are not really overpriced compared to the competition. Here's a frequency responce graph.

Sounds like the perfect headphone for the 16-30 year old 128k AAC iPod user, with notoriously harsh treble.

Bose does their market research, credit them with that.

except that "the competition" is half the price of the QC2, while trouncing the latter in sound quality:

Sennheiser PXC-250 for $150.
There are better headphones for the money than Bose, but in terms of headphones Bose Headphones are not 20 to 50 times the price they should be like bose home theater systems are. The most one could argue is that Bose headphones are priced 2 times or 3 times their value which is not unusual as far as headphones are concerned. Some Bose home theater systems are actually 50 or 60 times what they should really cost.

I mean the quite confort 2 may not be great, but they have extremely impressive bass handling. They're actually +7db @20hz.

They're actually louder at 20hz than they are at 22hz.

What do you base this conclusion on? Explain.

Many $50 dollar home theater systems such as a Jensen 5.1 system that was on sale during Black Friday have sound comprable to $2500 bose systems.

I've actually used a test tone disc to evaluate Bose Home Theater Systems when I was shopping for a home theater system. I listened without prejudice.

I only let my ears do the deciding not Bose's bad reputation.

The Altec Lansing 6 7/8" subwoofer driver that came with my brother's Dell Computer years ago actually produced deeper bass than Bose's $3000 home theater system that I tested with my test discs. I would say that Bose's Acoustic Mass modules have usable bass down to 45hz at the most, and that's actually after they improved them over the previous versions.

Another HUGE shortcoming of the Bose system I noticed with my tests were that the bass module was responsibe for producing sound WELL over 100hz and therefore it became easy to locate and didn't blend in like a subwoofer is supposed to.

A thrid huge problem was that there was a large gap from where the bass module left off to where the satellites picked up so that some higher bass and lower midrange frequencies were simply missing.

that's just anti-bose hyperbole.

that's not impressive... that's bloated.

actually, it's because they are well balanced for the price range. of those three only the porta pro has bloated bass. it has nothing to do with extension. but i do agree they are all great values (they're also all open, non-noise cancelling cans, so it's not an apples to apples comparison with the QC2).
