Short front speakers

460 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  pwhittle
I have a Samsung 61" DLP on top of a BDI Vector 9525 stand. The only suitable placement in the room is unfortunately in a place where the front speakers can only be 33" tall so that they are under the TV overhanging the edge of the stand.

I can also put a center speaker on the top shelf of the BDI, but I am not sure if it makes sense to have the center and left and right so close togeter compared to just left and right.

Any speaker suggestions up to $700 total, preferably less.

A large bookshelf on a short stand would work. If I were in that situation, I would probably fabricate my own stands that tilted the speakers up slightly so they would point towards my ears when at the seating position.

Is that $700 for two, three or more speakers? Not too bad of a budget for two, but it will be difficult to get 5 or more decent speakers for that much cash - Especially if you do not have a sub yet either.
The budget is just for the front two or three speakers. I can make my own mounts too.

I am uprading the speakers in my Onkyo HT-770 system. The layout of the room is such that I currently have rear speakers on mounts I welded up from 1" square steel, but the aesthetics of the room are such that I will probably forgo them to appease Mission Control (aka SWMBO, the rev limiter, or 'er indoors). For now I will continue to use the Onkyo receiver and subwoofer. This is not ideal, but this is making the best of what I have to deal with.

My goal is to get a great sound from just the fronts and the subwoofer.
