Because of how much I saved by going with a forum sponsor (Roman at Invision Displays) I did. $500.00 sounds a little steep for me though, I spend less than half that for and EW for my Pio 5070HD.

So very true, I don't know who mentiond that here first (these forums) but I wasn't even aware of that and needless to say my CC does cover me for an additional year, via a phone call, plus I can buy another three for a reasonable price that does not have to be decided upon, at the latest, until the original extra year has expired.

Almost every expert advises against buying extended warranties across the board. They are simply a poor investment. According to Consumer Reports web site the average repair rate for lcd and plasma televisions in the first two years is 3%. The average cost of a repair is less than $200. Panasonic is specifically mentioned as being a more reliable than average brand. Consumer Reports advises against purchasing extended warranties.

Of the hundreds of consumer electronics items I have purchased in my lifetime I have never once purchased an extended warranty. There has also never been an occasion where I would have profited by having one.

no the cc ext warranty is WAY OVER PRICED like monster cables....

the avs forum special from tape works texas.com for a mack 3 year addon warranty for plasma under $2500 is $130.

you are covered under the first year by your panasonic warranty then the mack 3 year covers everything after that for 3 more years. you just need to buy it within 30 days of your plasma purchase from cc.

I wonder how CR gets that $200 number on a plasma repair. Seems to me on a plasma two things are going to fail - the glass ($1000+) or the main board ($600+). At least that's been my experience with NEC's plasmas. (Note, I've never had a Panny fail
)

I have to agree it is either something small or something major. If the screen fails in anyway though usually it is not worth repairing.
