should I replace the 40-wire cable in my 4000?

I'm about to upgrade my 4040 with a Maxtor 250GB. That is really going to be nice. My question to the gurus: I have discovered that the cable inside my RTV is a 40-wire. Is there any reason that I should replace it with the 80-wire cable that came with the drive? That cable is much longer and so a little unwieldy, but it seems like I should do it if there would be any performance or functional benefit. Any opinions?

Thanks,

Ivan.

I am not sure that drive will even work with the 40 wire IDE cable. The new drive is ATA 133 and technically should use an ATA 133 80 wire IDE cable. You are better off using the 80 wire cable.

BTW, how much do Maxtor 250 GB drives cost these days?
I was thinking of doing the same thing. can you Let us know how it turns out ?
IMO, it really doesn't matter. You can run a 40 pin cable on an ATA 100/133 drive just fine. You just won't get the ATA 100/133 speeds. That doesn't matter though as the IDE controller in the 4XXX is not an ATA 100/133 (I am assuming).
I'm more interested in the upgrade to a 250gb drive :) I'd LOVE to have 250 hours....
