I bought both the AVS LT150 and the Dell LT150. The first one is opened, but hasn't been hooked up yet because the VGA cable was a bit too short. Then, I found the Dell deal and got that. So, I was debating the best all-around option. I can either return the AVS one for a $400 hit, try to sell the opened/unused AVS one (an authorized dealer), or try to sell the new in box Dell one.

I would like for someone to get the projector at a reduced price (maybe split the hit I took), but nobody will do that if they can get it new for a really cheap price. There's probably going to be a glut of new LT150's for sale soon as well. Any suggestions?

i agree returning the AVS unit would be a tacky thing to do.

but have you even set that one up yet and viewed it? how is it? i realize it's not the best projector that can be bought, but is it a solid value?

forget about the dell deal for a minute. Do you see $2700 worth of value in it?

if you do, then sell off the unopened one. the dell price is supposedly up to $2600 now for it, so even if you unload it for $2300 to some happy customer, you'll still be getting a good projector at a sale price.

just view the dell deal as a way to get your avs at an even more reduced price.

this thing was supposed to be a good value back when it was a little over $3k, so your still doing extremely well.

unless these new owners are going to be hooking it up in sub-standard set-ups (anything below a progressive scan, it seems) i find it hard that people will be rushing to dump them now that they've gotten into front projection at a bargain basement price. nows the time though, if you do plan to sell, there are still plenty of people who would love to do FP and don't have a clue about all the dell business.

There was a used one on ebay last week, but there was zero information provided about the unit, and it had three bids that went upto $2,000 (reserve not met). I think if you did a better job of marketing the LT150, I bet you could get $2400 off of ebay for the new unit.

Thanks guys. I didn't feel right about returning it either. I'll sell it. I'll try it here first, then E-bay later.

There you go,....A real man...I'm certainly not opposed to returning merchandise if it is not what I ordered or defective..but IF I agreed to buy it at a specific price and the retailer or wholesaler delivered as promised then it is a done deal as far as I'm concerned. The golden rule is always the best policy.

E-"gay"? Um, unless you're "queer as folk", casual slurs like that are as hurtful as a Caucasian using the "n" word--even when it's done (perhaps even especially when it's done) in a such a throwaway fashion.

I'm sure no malice was intended, but it's from little acorns like this that big trees of intolerance and disrespect grow. My apologies for going all "PC" on the board, but this is one of my few (but strong) pet peeves.

Yours in health,

No, Steve, I think he really meant to type that (but I don't think he meant anything by it). I've heard lot's of people say "E-gay" before, and I never say anything about it, but eventually you reach a point where you feel you HAVE to say SOMETHING, and JC just happened to be the slot in which the roulette ball of randomness fell.

Not to completely continue pounding on the subject, but for the (I'd estimate) 99% of AVS members who don't subscribe to Out magazine there's a column in the August 2001 issue by Eric Marcus wherein the author talks about how taken aback he was by his 12-year-old nephew's casual use of phraseology such as "That's SO gay!" to describe something that is bad, undesirable, etc. A good article, and something to think about... unfortunately, Out doesn't post its current issue online until next month or I'd post a link.

OK, this is WAAY more than I wanted to say on the subject and is seriously OT. My apologies to the forum and I should have just picked another time and place to spout off. Signing off now...

How about return the unopened one to Alan? Everyone wins; you get a lower net price, he get's to make the restocking charge, and sell the projector again, making more money on it.
