Should I sell my SVS 25-31 PC+ to get a PC-Ultra?

I guess I should know better than to expect anyone to tell me "no" here in the Subwoofer forum but here goes.

Maybe I am just thinking out loud. First of all I am happy with my 25-31 PC+. I'm just not blown away. Unfortunately I have a very large space to fill. My room is 14"x19" with a 12" cathedral ceiling. It is also open to the kitchen and to the rest of the house. If my math has not failed me entirely (a possibility) I have every bit of 4000 cubic feet that I am dealing with. To borrow a term I have read thrown around here at AVS the sub just can't "pressurize" the space.

Would going to a PC-Ultra do any better or do I need to go box sub and get a PB12-Plus/2.

The hard part of this is that I can't add another sub. I would have to sell the current sub to get enough money for the new sub. I have $750 (that is a hard number) to work with so I would need to sell my current sub for enough so that sale price + $750 is enough to get the new sub. I don't know if that is possible either.

Either way my wife is going to be pi$$ed at me because I told her this sub was the last speaker purchase until we move to a new house. She'll get over it though. ;)

What do you guys think?

1) PC-Ultra

2) PB12-Plus/2

3) Either is going to be a incremental improvement in the space. Be happy with what you have until you move to a new house and can get 2 PB12-Ultra/2. (In 5 or 6 years.)

4) There is no way you can sell the 25-31 PC+ for enough money to buy any of those other subs.

well I think you could sell your old one for 600 bucks easily and get yourself into an ultra but I dont know if thats the best course of action.

Get option #2, and don't look back. Seriously, do your best to upgrade as you only live once!

Carpe Diem!

get pb12+/2 for more headroom, then wait for the new house add another pb12+/2 or similar product. you can enjoy the pb12+/2 right now by doing this, and can add one more after the new place.
Another vote for the PB12+/2. If you go to a PC-Ultra it's going to give you more extension and a little bit better sound quality but you will probably not gain any SPL. In fact at 25 Hz and above your 25-31+ is probably going to play louder than a PC-Ultra.

I had suspected that would be true or the 25-31 PC+ would at least be close. I didn't want to bias anyone though so I didn't bring it up. :) A little confirmation for my thought process.
If you are already wanting a new one, I don't know of ANYONE who could wait six years before upgrading. I don't know why option #3 is even on the list. I can't think of anything I've ever wanted that I was reasonably capable of getting that I've been able to hold out for more than a year for. I don't even know if I'll still be alive in six years.

Yep... Once the upgrade bug has hit full force (as manifested by posting a poll at the forum), it's hard to stop. If there's a will, there's a way.
I say go with the PB12+/2. I have a 3500 cu ft. room with a single PC-Ultra. Although I would say the PC-Ultra was a decent improvement over the Sunfire Signature that I had before, I feel that the sub could use just a tad more headroom in my space. A couple of time when I had the volume up a little hot I caught a little bit of port noise and slight rattle from the cover on the top of the sub.

Now, granted, this is very rare (I really have to have it up a bit). But, if I had it to do over again I would probably have gone with the PB12+/2 and taken the extra headroom. I think the whole "Ultra driver sound" is a very subjective thing - you'd more likely notice more the "cleaner" sound of more headroom than the sound of a single ultra driver versus two plus drivers.

My 2 cents.

You could just add a second 25-31 PC+ if you have $750 laying around.

I voted for the PB12+/2, but you would also benefit from a single Ultra or an additional 25-31PC+. You could tune the 25-31s to 20hz. What WAF constraints do you have? Can you do multiple subs? The 2-driver box can be pretty imposing (so get the Ultra version ;)). A replacement cylinder might slip in a little better.

I went from a 20-39PC+ to an Ultra and love the sound. Still, I'd like to get another Ultra in the future... there is nothing wrong with additional overhead!

What are you looking for with your sub? Where is it leaving you wanting for more? Output? Extension? Mid-bass?
I would think if he had any WAF constraints they would have already been in place and he would not be an owner of a tube subwoofer. Personally I would go with the plus for the added headroom but you could save some cash if you look on the used market. I've seen them go for $850ish used so that keeps the upgrade cost pretty low if that's a concern.
The only real WAF constraints is that there can only be one.

I do enjoy the lower extension of the 20 Hz mode but it gives up too much in the upper bass for music in my opinion and music always trumps movies in my house. I listen to a lot of jazz but also a considerable amount of classical and even some heavy metal groups. Pretty eclectic tastes in music except I have a strict no rap rule.

Well that makes the decision easier. Wait 6 years to upgrade and deal with what you have or upgrade to the Plus/2 now. Pretty easy decision IMHO :)
The +2 or change the tuning to 25hz to get the full output and see how that works (for 6 years ;) )
Definitely PB12Plus/2 for now and get another PB12Plus/2 after six years. I do have PC Ultra and sounds wonderful but I doubt it will fulfill your need with just one subwoofer based on your experience with 25-31 PC Plus.

The second 25-31 PC+ would be the best choice :)

I think he's limited to having one sub... wife rules. :)
Well, I chose none of the above.

I went out today and bought a 225 watt per channel pro-audio stereo amp for my mains. It is kicking some serious bootay. :D

After more careful analysis of what I was hearing and not hearing I decided that maybe I needed more clean power to the mains. So far this seems to be the case. The mid-bass is really kicking more than it did before.

I will do some more listening tomorrow while my wife is out of the house and see if I haven't changed my mind again.
