Should I tell my wife, or see if she notices?

I have a new Panasonic 50 9UK arriving in the next day or so, to replace a Pan 42 3UK in our bedroom.

Size aside they look pretty similar.

Tell her, or just see if she notices??

Uh, I'm pretty sure she will notice that you have swapped a 42" TV with a 50" TV unless she is blind. The 50" plasmas are like 40% larger than the 42" plasmas.

It might be fun to surprise her, but one of my friends surpised his wife with a new 50" TV and apparently his wife did not share the excitement. :)

Good luck.

LOL! Man if you can pull that off you can pull off anything - that 8 inches is a huge difference IMO. Good Luck - Just tell it's her eyes and it's only 3-4 inches bigger but in the bedroom it may be more noticeable. Good Luck! I did that one with a kitchen LCD when I went 3 inches bigger and she noticed so I should have gone from the 23" to a 32" and gave her something to ***** about. Enjoy! :D
I recently got a new pj as well (IN76 to replace a 4805) and they look completely different, so no chance at her not noticing there. I really do wonder a bit. She doesn't really watch tv or movies.

She reads- I guess she might notice the increased ambient light thrown off by the 40% larger image with which to read.

SIDEBAR: the image from the IN76 is what forced me to upgrade- it is flat out beautiful and the old 3rd gen. Panasonic could not compare. Thats a 42" vs. 100" screen size.

You mean to be able to read better by, and just a little early (Dec.13th) :p
Just remember the old saying " It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission"

Yes- for their long term customers as a way of saying thanks. All you have to do is pay the shipping; approx. $2,300 to Nassau!
Actually money's not the issue.

We have a deal. We have a budget for disposeable income. If either one goes over this (its usually me), then the amount by which you exceed budget must go into a fund for our kids- ages 4 and 6. Thats what I get for marrying an accountant, but it is highly equitable.

As the sole bread winner all I have to do is a.) keep within budget or b.) earn twice as much as I spend on stuff.

I'm lucky as this year has been a good one for my kids (and by reference; for stuff!).
I couldn't do it with a tv, but a lot of the smaller electronics i buy i tell her that i had it before we were married in storage.

Has she noticed before when you told her that something in your bedroom was larger than it actually was?

He didn't need to tell her, she noticed right away!
if you pay the bills you don't have to tell her a damn thing.. if she gets upset just give her directions to the front door ;)

LOL LOL LOL, i thought i was the only one with new( i mean old) electronics packed away in the garage! we should create a new poll of who has tried to swap out a new piece of electronics without the wife noticing.

i have a funny story, i bought a new subwoofer last year. it was an hsu replacing my crappy jbl. i swapped it out, and they looked pretty similiar. well my wife comes home from the store with my kids, and guess who opens their mouth? my son says "hey where did that come from?", meaning the sub. i deny it saying "thats always been there" he says " no, it looks diferent", i say to wife "he is crazy", she then agrees with me and tells him "thats always been there". talk about a close one.

So why did you even post the original question?. If you have that arrangement in place, why is telling her even an issue?.
