Should I trust an online store for a 70xbr950?

OK guys, after a year and a half of lending advice on the forum (some hopefully useful), I need some return help in one area I'm embarrassed to admit I'm really weak in - purchasing! I've finally decided to get that sony 70xbr950 behemoth for the living room to supplement my 2 year old bedroom panny 40lc12, now that prices have gone down a bit for this set. Here's the thing. I've provisionally worked out a deal with a local store for 6k for the set, and with tax and the extended warranty it will be a shade under 7k (I'm not posting store names due to what I understand to be forum rules). But online - e.g. by using the "Dealtime" search on our avsforum web bar - stores designated as "trusted stores" can get it to my house with an apparently comparable extended warranty for around 5900-6200, which is of course 800$-1k less than if I buy locally. Has anyone bought big sets like this online and been happy? Are their warranties bogus? Obviously I'd be trading peace of mind for the $, but that's a lot of $! PLEASE lend me your thoughts. thanks!!

I just took the lowest priced etailer off of the dealtime site and entered it in the bizrate site and got two totally different opinions of this company. On dealtime, it got 4 1/2 checks out of 5. On the other, there was post after post about how bad this same company was. Somethings not right.

I think I would search out several etailer review sites to find a concensus on a specific etailer.

At one time, I thought I heard something about the Sony not offering the manufacturers warranty on XBR models purchased off of the internet. You might also want to go check on this.

Considering the size and weight of this TV, I think I'd find a way to buy it locally if at all possible. Its just too heavy and large to try to get back into a box and have a shipping company come pick it up for a return if it doesn't work right. Not the same as a DVD player that you can put in a box and run out to the UPS store.
Never buy an LCD RPTV without a 30 day return policy. Anything else is risky with the possibility of stuck pixels looming large.
Bump. (gotta make a decision today). thanks.
