Should I use my player's scaler or my tv's scaler?

I have a Sony DVP-NS75H and it will scale up to 1080i max over HDMI. The TV I am getting, Sony XBR2, is 1080p native. Should I let the player output at 480p only at let the tv do the scaling, or should I let the player output at 1080i and let the TV just de-interlace it to 1080p? Thanks.

I would try letting the Sony output at 1080i and let the TV just de-interlace it to 1080p. You may want to try different settings on the Sony and see which one looks the best. Sometimes it is just a matter of personal preference.
The answer is to compare them (480i out if the Sony does that, 480p out, and 1080i out) and see which you prefer.
I have the NC85 which is the 5-disc Changer version of the NS75 connected to a Sony KDL-52XBR3 LCD TV via HDMI. For a long time I was using the NC85 at 1080i so the DVD player was doing the deinterlacing/scaling. Recently I changed it to 480p (still over HDMI) so the TV is now doing the deinterlacing/scaling and I actually now prefer the picture at that resolution. It just seems to be a bit clearer more vibrant. Bottom line, as BillP said, is to try the different resolutions and see which you prefer the best.
Thanks for all the good advice, I will see how it goes.

I've got the same player connected via HDMI to Samsung HL-S5086W. The player's set to 1080i but I've been wondering about letting the Sammie do the scaling ever since I stumbled on a review that gave it high marks in that area. Now I've definitely gotta check it out. Thanks.
I was wondering which test patterns, etc from DVE I should use to evaluate the scaler as well as the interlacing of my TV vs. my DVD player. Anyone? And, briefly, what should I be looking for?

Thanks!
