Show me your completed SEOS Speaker Build (a collection of SEOS builds)

16640 Views 40 Replies 22 Participants Last post by  cw5billwade
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND WILL BE CONTINUALLY UPDATED.

I decided to put together this thread for all things SEOS. The goal, is to have a collection of build threads, photos, and other assorted information.I'm not sure how this will pan out, but we shall see over time
What I'm asking of you, is that if you have built or are building a SEOS based speaker, please post applicable information to this thread
1) A link to your build thread so that I can add it below
2) A brief statement or review of your design or of the kit. What's your impression? (If your build is in progress, you can edit your thread to include this when you are finished
3) A single photo to showcase your finished speaker (If your build is in progress, you can edit your thread to include this when you are finished 4
4)I'm also asking if people can put together posts (which I will re-link back to this main post) or link to a previous post/site which can be used almost as a FAQ. Things like "What is a wave guide" " What is the importance of constant directivity" "What is the advantage of high efficiency speakers" etc.

There are tonnes of SEOS builds.

Here's mine...

1) Link:
BassThatHz's 7 seos12's, 7 cel-15's, 6 dayton um's, build thread

2) 7 Cheap Thrills Kits, but in custom boxes and 6 UM-15's as woofers, and a mix of active/passive circuitry with what is essentially four quad-monoblocks (33,600watts @ 4ohms into the seven).

Impressions thus far: Requires EQ to sound most-optimal but DAMN impressive for the PRICE. On par with my B&W N803's for SQ but... more efficient, much higher power handling, and louder too.

2) DIY 1.1cu ft sealed Tempests. F3 is around 80-90hz. Can get loud with a receiver and sound clean.

No build thread however I did want to post a few pics.

Fusion-12-2 coats of duratex and one coat to match the walls. My wife considered the cherry Polk RTiA9s and CSiA6 these replaced to be pretty and did not like the look of the Tempest. I operate on a function over form mentality but figured I will compromise and paint to match the walls. She still no like...

Yes, I have subs. 2 lilmikes F20's. Probably cant see them but I assure you they are in the room. (
)

Still playing with the toe in (~30 degrees now) and need to run MCACC. Huge upgrade!

Here's some of my build pics. I hijacked filter's thread, but should have done my own.

The picture makes them look more red then they are in reality. My house is full of dark cherry and mahogany wood. These speakers sound awesome. The longer I have them, the more I like them.

Other threads like this on the theater side are titled Show me your XXX so why not "Show me your completed SEOS speakers" the community really needs this. I think if everyone added pictures of their Speakers with a review and a link to their build thread even if it is in the middle of their theater build like a lot are would be great. Then Erick can put a link on DYI Sound Group to the finished Pictures and Reviews

Tempest Towers
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1524687/tempest-towers-build-thread

At first I thought they sounded a little bright and hollow but after breaking them in I can say the Tempest sound absolutely amazing. These are in my HT room but I have actually found myself listening to a little bit of music just because of how awesome they sound. I really need a pair of these out by the pool!

I haven't found time yet, but I plan to take some measurements and add the results to my build thread.

I received a great deal of positive feedback relative on my choice of speaker stands
however I did build proper stands a weeks or so after completing the Fusion 12s.

The grey did not seem to fit the speakers. Went back to black.

I will eventually tuck the wires behind the baseboard (and replace the carpet).

The stands are cool looking. However, it almost makes me wish the cabinets were the same color grey. That room looks like you're still building something?
I just tried to edit the title, and the forum editor broke the first post. I need to spend time I don't have now trying to fix this cluster ****.

Thank you. I have a number of finishing touches to complete. Baseboard, carpet, a proper stage and perhaps a projector. Hoping to get things rolling this fall.

Bud is your screen AT? I was wondering because it looks likeif the center was behind the screen the frame would split between the tweeterand the woofer.
Should be updated to this point :)

It is a Seymour AT screen. Once I finish the room the speakers will be up off the floor behind the screen. The tweeter will be somewhere around 50" which will be ear level of my raised back row of seats.

So the sub will be above the screen frame with the ports below it? I have the same situation and wanted to see how you handle it. Also since you have more volume in the speaker how did you tune for that or did you? I guess what I am asking is same cross over and same length ports?
