Here's a picture of my latest build using the Streacom FC5 Alpha case (with no optical slot). Holy crap was the case expensive, but even with the spindle drive running, the only way I can hear it is if I get within about two feet of the case. So for me it was worth it.

Build specs:

Streacom FC5 Alpha case with FLIRC remote sensor
Streacom Silent 240W power supply
ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac motherboard
Kaby Lake Core i3-7100T (this is the 35W one)
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR4 2400
SK Hynix 120 GB SSD
Western Digital Red 8TB HD
Kodi and NextPVR for Media Center/PVR functionality (running on Windows 10 64bit)

The build is 4K 60Hz ready (I don't have a 4K TV yet though) and runs at about the same temperature as my current fan cooled, 4 year old i3 build in a Silverstone case.

My Kaby Lake HTPC build - 4K ready

Hi all,

A few pics of my most recent HTPC build. Started from scratch with this one, other than my old bluray drive and a few internal HDD's full of movies and TV shows.

Did loads of research to make sure the thing is 4K compliant as I plan to upgrade my TV and AVR in the next 6-12 months.

Case: Silverstone GD08
Mobo: ASUS PRIME Z270-AR
CPU: Intel Kaby Lake i5-7400
Memory: 8GB Kingston DDR4, 2400Mhz
GPU: ASUS Turbo GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
SSD: Samsung M.2 960 Evo 250GB (For the O/S and current games)
HDD: WD 4TB, Seagate 4TB, WD 3TB, WD 2TB
PSU: Corsair CSM 650W 80+ Gold, Semi Modular
Optical: Pioneer BDR-207DBKS Blu-Ray

TV: LG 50" LCD 50LB5820
AVR: Sony STR-DH800
Speakers: Tannoy SFX 7.1
Control: Harmony Elite with Flirc, K400 Keyboard, Anywhere MX 2 mouse

Since you already have the Baluns, I would look at just getting an HDMI matrix. DVDO makes a 6x2 that is 4K and only about $400 (only 2 outputs, though). Then you simply use the baluns from the exit points of the switch like you're doing now for the 3 GPUs. You should be able to find a decent 6x4 unit for under $1,000, I believe. Also, having used both XBMC and Plex I would recommend the latter as it streams much more smoothly and works on many many platforms out of the gate. Totally worth a lifetime premium membership, imho.

I was going to do a matrix with built in baluns but they were very price prohibited so I actually have said DVDO unit and 2 HDMI baluns running out of it to our two TVs. Then using a Harmony remote to control it all from a different floor. Waiting anxiously for my new NEEO remote to arrive, but I digress...
Took your advice and have another update! Modded a Fractal Design Node 605 drive bay into the case for better cooling options.

Less fans/noise but better cooling. Replaced stock dust filters with Silverstone's 120mm magnetic dust filters.

Specifications:
Supermicro MBD-X10DAL-I-O ATX Dual-CPU LGA2011-3 Motherboard
2X Intel Xeon E5-2637 V3 3.5GHz Quad-Core OEM/Tray Processor
2X Noctua NH-U9S

2X Noctua NF-P12
8X 16GB Micron ECC Registered DDR4 RAM
1X MSI Geforce GT 710 (for Unraid default display)
2X Asus Strix Geforce GTX 750Ti
2X Inateck 4 Ports PCI-E to USB 3.0 Expansion Card
1X SuperMicro 128GB SATADOM SSD
2X Seagate 4TB NAS Hard Drive
Silverstone SFX-L 700W PSU
Silverstone Grandia GD10

Transmitters/Receivers/Switch
2X AV Access HDBaseT HDMI Transmitter over Cat6
2X AV Access USB 2.0 Extender over Cat6
1X AV Access HDMI Matrix 4x2,4K HDMI Matrix Switch

Traded 1 GTX 750ti for USB3 Hot-Plug on both Unraid VM's and a shared VM between garage/loft. Also "upgraded" to Win 8.1 MC.

Think this would be the last of the tweaks for me but still super happy with Unraid. :)

Don't use it for a lot of HTPC duties but since I'm moving on from the build I thought I'd throw a picture out... hopefully some others enjoy aesthetics as well... even if not mine per se. :) One of my goals was quiet and you can't hear it from a foot away.

I think I’ve seen photos of the system you’ve posted before. That’s a thing of beauty.

Thanks. Yeah it's been done for a while now. I finally got bored and added some dye to the distilled water and that's that. Surprisingly I still like it as I usually get the urge to move on. Not so much with this build. Plus I can't sell/ship it so that slowed down the replacement too. As soon as Primochill ships their new Wetbench I'm going to do a threadripper build... at least that's the plan.

I ended up piecing out that build and threw together a Threadripper one. I picked up a 1920X for $162 and figure down the road (when the second generation chips fall off) I'll swap CPUs. When I do upgrade I might redo the tubing going for different look...

That one looks somewhat ominous and frightening for some reason!

More or less the look I was going for. :) Unfortunately I picked up the case for next to nothing which led to one piece after another and another build. Although for some unknown reason one aluminum side piece was powder coated pale pink which had to be addressed along with a few other mods. Not a real fan of the case outside of the fact there is zero plastic.
