Hello. My Panasonic Showstopper PV-HS3000 Hard Drive failed (clicking sound during power-up). Opened up case, and ordered replacement Maxtor 60Gb HD which was still under warranty.

(1) How do I set up the drive for the box if the original drive is not accessable?

(2) How do I install a larger drive, and how large could it go?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

I just went through the same thing last week and had a thread on this, but looks like it's been deleted. Anyways the instructions referenced below aren't very clear on how this is done when the original Replay drive is dead.

So here are a couple "clarifications" that people told me in the other thread. After you have the correct image downloaded to your computer's drive, have downloaded and unzipped the ReplayTV patch utility and have the new drive plugged into your PC you do the following. Run the low level format SW (PowerMax - available at URL below) on the new Maxtor drive. Note you can also use this to try and diagnose what is wrong with the original "dead" ReplayTV drive (if you plug it into your PC).

Run ReplayTV patch like the directions say and set your PC's drive as the source drive, the new ReplayTV drive as the target. Click on Restore target drive and browse to the image on your PC. From there just follow the other directions and do the "Patch Target" operation once the "Restore Target" completes.

Thank you for the information. I have loaded the new 60Gb drive I received from Maxtor, and it is now functioning fine. I will next try to load a larger 120Gb drive into the Showstopper and use the 60Gb as an external drive for my PC. The larger drive will allow me to record in a higher resolution. I was so pleased to find out that I didn't need to dump the whole thing into the trash. Again, thank you for your assistance!

Note: the low level format doesn't seem to be available when you access the software under Windows.
