I have HBO ala carte for $12/month (which is no longer available from what DirecTv told me).

I called in to get the Sat C kit for just the shipping cost ($8.08, self install) and they told me that I had to have Showtime in order to get this deal.

In addition, premium channels can not be ordered ala carte anymore and that I had to have a base package to add Showtime. Basically, they wanted me to buy the $31.99 base package, plus Showtime, in order to get the Sat C kit.

Has anyone been able to get Showtime-HD w/o having a base package or programming, or should I just forget about watching Showtime? If needed, I can buy my own Sat C kit off the net for $30-40, but will I able to receive Showtime HD with my current HBO only package? I know that some people get HBO-HD w/o a HBO subscription, so maybe this will work the same?

Thanks.

Consider yourself lucky to just be able to get HBO ala carte. I tried signing up but got the "base package" requirement BS and refuse to pay $31.99 plus the $12 just to get three channels of HD and a slew of others I'll never watch. At least you get HBO-HD and HDNet for a small fee... Good luck! Sorry for the whining - had to vent.

Read this post. This guy says he got it for nothing.

I too have Pegasus as my Directv provider. I called to ask how I can get them to send me a Sat-C kit for the cost of shipping so I can pick up Showtime HD and she said..."Hmm I remember getting a memo on that this morning..hang on let me ask my supervisor"....She comes back and says.."Turn to ch. 543, you should have it"..I tell her that I read where Directv will provide you the Sat-C kit for the cost of shipping and I need that before I can get ch. 543. She says "Let me call a Directv rep to find out".....she calls back and says "since I am a Pegasus customer and not a Directv customer I have to get the Sat-C kit from whom I got my Satellite from. (Pegasus provides Directv to rural areas and Directv just provides their service to urban areas.) " So I can't get a Sat-C kit from Directv. So, I ordered one online and will have to wait 1-2 weeks to get it as everywhere is backordered. So, no Showtime-HD for me just yet.

One other thing I did not know. She said I didn't have to subscribe to HBO or Showtime to receive them in HD. I had been subscribing to HBO to get the HD-HBO. She said I will receive HD-HBO and HD-Showtime for free!!!! I had her turn off HBO and sure enough I still got HD-HBO. I do subscribe to the Total Choice package but to get HD-HBO and HD-Showtime for nothing more is great!!!

I have Pegasus. I have Total Choice,HBO [all] and Starz. They would not give me ShowTime HD for free, so I told them to keep it. I don't know how some can but others can not. It took me two days to find someone to even acknowledge that they had Showtime HD. I am paying over $65 now for TC,HBO and Starz. You would think they would give me that "one" channel.

OMG. After my 5th call, and lots of nagging, I finally got a CSR to add the SHO-HD line item ($0.00/monthly) for no charge........even without having a base package or subscribing to Showtime.

My bill now reads (cut/pasted from website, after waiting about 30 sec.):

----------------------------

Monthly Services:

HBO/HBO FAMILY ($12.00/month)

HDTV ($0.00/month)

Monthly Charge for Services Shown Above:

$12.00

Other Charges and Sports Subscriptions:

SHOWTIME HD ($0.00/MONTHLY)

----------------------------

Okay, now for the next challenge: Getting the Sat-C kit for $8.08 w/o changing my subscription. They should do it on my next call since Showtime is now listed on my monthly services....updates to follow.

Update:

I called them back after about 2 minutes and spoke with another CSR...I told them I wanted the Sat C kit for $8.08 (self install). She too my CC# and verified the shipping address and that was it. She did also verify that Showtime was part of my monthly services ("hmm, it looks like they've already added Showtime - HD to your subscription, so we are okay there").

Wow, that was easy (the 5th time anyway). I figured there was absolutely NO way that I would be able to get Showtime-HD AND the Sat C Kit for free and still keep my $12/month subscription. It can be done, just keep pestering them.

Now once you're able to watch something head over to the"Showtime HD very disappointing" thread and tell us what a waste that 8 bucks was! ;)

LOL, I was just thinking about that actually. My real goal was to get the kit for $8, not to get Showtime - HD. Eventually, there will be more HD channels on that 110 bird and I saved myself from having to buy the $40-60 out of my own pocket. :)

I just went over to the Showtime website and looked at their typical weekend schedule and I'm amazed at the lack of HD. I guess free upconverted movies are better than renting the DVD's of those movies for $4 a pop.
