I only have room on one of my side walls to raise my right energy 2.2 satellite surround speaker 1 foot above my listening position. Everything I've read says 2 feet or higher. I have just switched from 5.1 to 7.1. Before I drill holes in the wall is this ok?

Would it be better to point the speakers up towards the ceiling so the sides don't overwhelm the fronts? Or leave them straight on from my listening position which is 4'?

1 foot above your head is fine. Regarding where to aim the side speakers, I'd just leave them pointing straight ahead and lower their output if they overwhelm the fronts, but experimentation is really the key here.
