silly question about speaker/copper wire

1381 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  kidsdoc
o.k. so from my questions it's going to be obvious that i haven't bought speaker wire in a really long time...it was suggested to me by a friend that i just buy lamp cord from lowes/home depot for my new setup...after doing a search it seems that most people (or at least some) agree that (copper) wire is wire is wire...

my question is does lamp cord/copper wire from lowes/HD come insulated? does it need to be stripped? if so, any special equipment/tools needed? thanks in advance & sorry for the simple/silly questions!

"Lamp Cord" may only be 18 AWG (or even smaller). I would suggest running nothing but 12 or 14 AWG just to be sure. The HD stuff does come with a PVC insulation jacket (clear). All you need to use are electricians wire strippers also available at HD.
