I've seen it mentioned in passing about people forcing their receiver between multiple modes, stereo, mono, Dolby Digital, Dolby PLII, DTS, etc.

Here is my question:

Once I've played around with a mode on an input (In this case my XBox360) I canNOT for the life of me get it back to Dolby Digital 5.1 That's the native output of my Xbox, but now I'm stuck on one of the Dolby Game analog profiles.

I've noticed this on my HTPC and DVD player as well. Once I get "off" of Dolby Digital, I can never get back to it. People mention forcing it, so it must be a simple fix, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. None of the buttons on the remote will cycle to a Dolby Digital setting, all of them cycle between Stereo, Mono, PLII, and DTS. Why no DD?

Any help?

Please let me know if you have anymore questions. This quirk has bothered me since I got the receiver last year, but I always figured I would eventually work it out.

You cant "force" anything to Dolby Digital. Either your device sends a DD signal or it doesn't. If your playing a game or movie that is DD encoded then you should see the DD signal on the receiver display.

Dolby Digital is not a DSP sound mode like Pro Logic II, 5 channel Stereo or some of those other sound fields.

There should be a button somewhere that sets the receiver back to an "apply no processing" status that will cause the front panel to just say "Dolby Digital" again, instead of specifying a DSP mode. Try more buttons; you'll hit it eventually.

Or, read the manual.
