Sim2 HT3000 Lumens

Today I had a little time with my dealers HT3000. I did a quick calibration prior to a customer demo. I only had a limited time to calibrate the pj before the customer visit, but I did manage to measure the lumens. Using a Sencore system (Sencore CP5000 color analyzer system using a Sencore VP403 generator) I measured 20 ftL at the screen while the screen was illuminated at the 100 IRE level full screen (not windowed). The screen was a 50x90 screen. The pj was calibrated to D65 and was approximately 6550K at the 100 IRE level. Brightness and contrast were calibrated using the Sencore VP403 patterns. By my calculation this equates to 625 lumens. So now you have another data point for the HT3000. :)

I know this is somewhat higher than Jason measured earlier on his sample. This was not a prototype unit. All I can say is this is what I measured. This unit only had 35 hrs on the lamp, so maybe this accounts for the higher output.

Out of the box, the brightness was too high and contrast too low. Both were at 50, evidently the default settings. Calibration brought them to 46 and 66 respectively. The color temp out of the box was close to 8000. The image was not too impressive. After calibration the image was gorgeous. I was very impressed with the quality of the colors, especially the facial tones. They looked great.

The demo was a Sim2 HT3000 vs a Sim2 C3X Lite. My particular taste leans to the C3X Lite because it's so much brighter, but this HT3000 was very impressive indeed. I didn't stick around for the demo so I don't know what the customer thought, but I'll find out tomorrow.

Do you know what version you had? Also, was the 20 flb after the calibration? I just sent mine in for updating, but if it is not near this then they have vastly different units out there.

If you mean firmware version, I can check tomorrow as I didn't write it down. It was a new unit borrowed from the distributer for this demo.

Yes, the 20 ftL was measured after calibration to D65. Also, I checked in the service menu and the white level was set at 0 and I did not change it from that setting. On your unit I remember you had to change it to get the brightness up. This one wasn't like that.

I'll try to get the firmware version tomorrow.
Interesting. Well I haven't hooked mine back up since I had sent it in, but unless they fixed something, that is a HUGE difference in light output and I don't know what would account for it.
The firmware was version 3.09.24F(HMN006)10. :)
Perhaps the bulb was defective in Jason's sample (it happens). It didn't measure even half as much light output as you got and that's with the White Level setting in the SM set in the mid 20's.

Quite possibly so. I visually inspected the image again this morning on the 103" diag screen and it was very bright and punchy. Easily viewable with the sconce lights on. I personally own a C3X (not the Lite) and love it. However, I would be very satisfied to own this HT3000 too. :D On my C3X I notice pixel structure at about 1.5 screen widths away. I prefer to sit 1.7-1.8 away (depending if I'm reclined or not), so my C3X is just fine. However, if I were an "up close" junkie as some here apparently are, I would be very happy with this HT3000 as I had to get very very close to see the individual pixel structure. The customer hadn't come in yet as of this morning, but I'd be very surprised if he didn't like the image on this projecter.
I am calling them now to confirm what they found with mine....
For further info, the 103" diagonal screen was a Vutec Matte White with a 1.0 gain spec.
Okay. Robin was out so I left a message. I would be firing up the HT3000 now, but my boss returned the favor (referring to me taking his Pearl), and took my HT3000. :)
Update...Alan reported that the HT3000 (same one I had demoed with Tom, but that has been updated) was WAY brighter than the Ruby. This doesn't mesh with what Tom and I saw, so I suspect there was something not right with it originally.
Jason,

Would it be possible for you and Alan to use a meter and provide us with updated lumen levels for the HT3000! Your original review and comments caused me to scratch this off my projector list due to low light output. I must have a LONG THROW projector capable of lighting up a 120" wide 2.35 X 1 screen. Keep the updates coming and perhaps Alan could also provide his feedback concerning "His time spent with your projector".

Thanks,

Glenn
Yes I will be doing that when I return next week. I have an install to go to this weekend.
