Hi gang

Long time reader, first time poster

Moving into my new house in the next few months and trying to decide on a projector.

I had settled on a Sony 12HT, but then decided on the HS10 and now im awaiting the HS20.

And lo and behold a review of the the SIM2 Domino has caught my attention. Any one any ideas on this...

Domino VS HS10/HS20

Which would be better for image quality....

Vic,

this is a very basic question, you are adressing no less than the difference between two totally different technologies with respect to front projection, i.e. DLP (e.g. SIM2 D20) versus LCD (e.g. Sony HS??).

IMHO: It is no comparison at all.

However you should take a look for yourself.

To me the DLP technology is still far superior to the best LCD there is /can be.

Thanks for the reply but living in cork, ireland and trying to audition any projector let alone the sony or the sim2 is impossible. I cannot even find a dealer for the sim2 in ireland let alone anything else.

What i judge my stuff on (and i know its not a good idea) is screen shots posted by you good people.

Do as much research as possible on DLP projectors and then get the SIM :D ...just kidding, I really love my SIM but you do need to do a lot of reading and this forum is the best place you can be for information.

Hey Vic,

congrats on your first post. In order to be able to confu...I mean.. help you out, let us know what you are planning for screen size, the room type, etc..

There is plenty of info on the AVS forum. Lately there has been an LCD vs DLP chat (started out as a mine is longer than yours type of thread...but settled into a very infomative one) entitled "a challenge to the experts by HEAT".

Check it out.

As user of the Sim2 Products for years now. We certainly feel they are the best looking DLP's. We have seen the Domino 30 on a 16' screen and it was amazing..

The room is 8 10" x 10 7". I have a room at the rear for all equipment etc. etc. so absolutely no clutter in the cinema itself. Small i know, but this is all i could convince the missus to let me have in our new house (who wears the pants lol). Looking at throw distances i should be able to get a 6ft odd screen in.

The Sim Domino has really thrown me off the LCD path. BTW can anyone reccommend a dealer in ireland that deals with SIM2 as i cant seem to fine one.

Must get to work on the LCD vs DLP thread. Thanks folks.

Vic, you need to first get out of Cork. You have two choices head east to Dublin, west to kinsale or south to the coast, but please god get out of cork.

There used to be a high end Audio Video shop in Belfast, i know it is a good 5 hour drive but call ahead and see what projector they are showing, it is worth the while.

DLP is a better image by far, but some people are sensitive to DLP, they see artifacts and get headaches. I personally get headaches from my nec lt240, but some of the other DLP machines dont bother me.

The Sony HS 20 looked good when i saw it last month, it is impressive for the price point.

Let me know if you cant find somewhere to see a projector in ireland, i might be able to help you out. I lived there for 5 years and have many friends both in the north and south.

Dundalk has a better selection!

Harvey Normans on the south side of town dem the Sony HS10 and the Hitachi range,

McGahon and O'Neill on the northside of town have dem rooms with Sharp Z10000, Marantz 12s2 NEC ht1000 and Panasonic 200 + 300

(edit to correct model number)

Keep in mind the HS20 is a serious step up from the HS10 (both in contrast/black level and with MLA=less screen door).

Is the Domino MSRP near the Sony HS20 MSRP of $3499?
Wondering the same thing. Why would these two even be competing in your mind? Can you get the Sim for close to the same price??

The price point is abouit 2 grand between the hs 20 and the sim2. I think im going to have to hold off till some reviews of the hs20 comes out next month. Either way my planning is going to continue (as no doubt my budget will rise) and as soon as things are under way, ill post some pics of the progress, although thats a few months away yet.

George, your right about Cork. The only way is northwards. There is nothing here for hi end cinema or lo-end for that matter. One dealer in the city carries B&W speakers and thats about it. Sony projectors and projectors in general are far and few between. Most places will order it for you TO BUY, but for demo purposes not a hope.

I lived in Donaghadee for five years, i loved that rainy little country. I usually come over every other year. I am a rare mix, both orange and green, grandfather was born in Edinburgh and grandmother in Dublin.
