I'm new to HTPC. I'm running Windows XP Media Center 2005. As I understand, a fresh install of MCE will not playback DVDs. You need to install a 3rd party app such as Nvidia's NDVD or PowerDVD. I installed PowerDVD and then loaded up MCE. I went to play the DVD and it looks terrible in MCE. It looks good when I close the MCE app and play the DVD in regular windows mode with the PowerDVD app.

Can anyone tell me how to make DVDs look good while using the MCE app?

Thanks!

You can try the dscaler mpeg filter, paired with ffdshow for deinterlacing. Dont know if that will work inside mce. Or if you have a high-end nvidia card, the NVDVD decoder would probably be better.

I use the Nvidia decoders under MCE2005 with good results. Are you using the most current version of PowerDVD? I heard only the latest works under MCE05.

I have an ATI x300 video card. I believe my PowerDVD version is 6.
