Until 7.1 AV receivers become more affordable, can I simulate somewhat the full surround effect with a receiver that has 5.1 channels in speaker set A and 2 channels in speaker set B by running both sets of speakers in the same room with back surround speakers that are identical to my front LR speakers?

With non-discrete 6.1 formats it should be perfectly possible.

As Tag Mc Laren is asking about 1000 EUR for their 7.1 upgrade (quite expensive given the competetion like Integra RDC7 which does a better job at the price of a fully loaded Tag av32r), we decided to connect both pairs of B&W SCM-8 dipoles to the 2ch amp dedicated to the surround channel, instead of upgrading the Tag.
